Wayne was technical author of the guidance on healthcare laundry for the National Health Service, HTM 01-04 and we are currently advising hospitals and organisations on all aspect of decontamination of medical devices. We specialise in capacity planning of sterile service departments as well as validation of decontamination processes. |
Our GoalWith strong relationships with the Department of Health we are well placed to keep our clients up to date with changes in legislation and published guidance. Our direct involvement in working alongside national organisations means we have inside knowledge on the status and content of new guidance often before it is released. We aim to pass this knowledge on to our customers and keep them up to date and informed.
We strive to be informative and helpful, providing the first port of call for our clients when medical device reprocessing issues are identified. |
CV of Wayne Spencer
Director
Wayne began his healthcare career working in a variety of roles in healthcare engineering and estate management before moving to the Welsh Health Common Services Authority in 1992 as a sterilizer validation engineer. Wayne became registered as an Authorised Person (now Authorising Engineer (Decontamination)) in 1999.
After joining the Department of Health in 2000, Wayne chaired the department's decontamination investment process that delivered £90 million to the NHS. Wayne was chairman of the Engineering Specification Working Group for the Department of Health from 2000 to 2004 that produced the Surgical Instrument Management System specification, the C30 washer-disinfector specification and the C32 endoscope reprocessor specification for the National Health Service. He became a senior partner in the Department of Health's consultancy division 'Inventures' where he managed a team of project managers, scientists and specialist technical advisers. He left the department in 2005 to work as an independent consultant and established Spencer Nickson Ltd.
Wayne is also a member of the British Standards working group which inputs into decontamination ISO and EN guidance and the convenor of ISO TC198 Working Group 12 which is responsible for revision to ISO17664. He therefore has the opportunity to comment and influence forthcoming International and European standards. Wayne recently authored the decontamination chapter for the Manual Of Perioperative Care.
